International applicants (including Nepali citizens) pursuing a first doctoral degree at a Canadian university with a Vanier CGS quota. Must have a first-class average in the last two years of study. Nominated by the Canadian institution — you cannot apply directly.

About the Scholarship

The Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) was launched to attract the world's top doctoral candidates to Canadian universities. Up to 166 scholarships are awarded annually, with 500 active at any time.

It is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international students — Nepali applicants are eligible to be nominated.

Funding

CAD $50,000 per year for three years, awarded to support doctoral students in social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health research.

How to Apply

You cannot apply to Vanier CGS directly. First, get admitted to a doctoral program at a Canadian university that has a Vanier quota. The university will then nominate its strongest candidates through ResearchNet. Focus on getting a strong academic record and research proposal.
