About the Scholarship

The Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship is one of the most prestigious fully funded scholarships available to Nepali students. Offered by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, it covers all expenses for the full duration of your degree.

Nepal has a strong bilateral relationship with Japan, and Nepali students are actively encouraged to apply through the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu each year.

What's Covered

Full tuition fees at a Japanese national university, a monthly stipend of ¥117,000–¥145,000 depending on degree level, return economy airfare between Nepal and Japan, and a Japanese language preparatory course before your degree begins.

How to Apply from Nepal

Applications open at the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu, usually in May–June each year. You will submit academic transcripts, a research plan, and sit a written examination and interview conducted by the Embassy.

Shortlisted candidates are then recommended to the Japanese Ministry of Education for final selection.
