About Victoria University of Wellington

Victoria University of Wellington (Te Herenga Waka) is New Zealand's capital city university, with particular strengths in public policy, law, architecture, and information management. QS #244 globally, VUW is Wellington's primary university and the closest New Zealand equivalent to a policy-focused academic institution — its School of Government, Faculty of Law, and Wellington School of Business are all well-regarded by New Zealand's public sector, legal profession, and IT services industry. Wellington's status as the national capital means VUW graduates have direct access to government departments and policy organisations, which is an important pathway for Nepali students interested in international development, public administration, or law.

Wellington itself is a compact, walkable, and very liveable city — smaller and quieter than Auckland, with a strong café and cultural culture and lower accommodation costs. Public transport is excellent by NZ standards. The university's international student support services include a dedicated Pasifika and international student welfare team, and the campus is well-integrated into the city with easy access to government employers. VUW's 3-year Open Work Visa eligibility means Wellington graduates can transition directly into New Zealand employment after completing their degrees.
