Auckland University of Technology (AUT)

Auckland University of Technology was granted university status in 2000, making it New Zealand's newest university. Despite its relatively recent establishment, AUT has become one of the most popular NZ universities for Nepali students, particularly those in nursing, IT, and engineering technology. The university's practical, industry-focused approach to teaching — emphasising applied skills and employer partnerships rather than pure research — aligns well with the career goals of many Nepali students who want direct employment outcomes after graduation.

AUT's nursing program is particularly significant for Nepali students: it leads to Nursing Council of New Zealand registration, and nursing-qualified graduates are eligible for New Zealand's Open Work Visa. Auckland's Middlemore Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, and a network of community clinics provide clinical placement sites. AUT's tuition is lower than the University of Auckland at the same Auckland location, and the university's international student services are specifically designed to support large cohorts of South Asian students.
