About Ritsumeikan University

Ritsumeikan University is one of Japan's leading private comprehensive universities, founded in 1900 and based in Kyoto with additional campuses in Osaka (Ibaraki) and Shiga (Kusatsu). With 36,000 students across 16 colleges and graduate schools, Ritsumeikan is one of Japan's largest private universities, offering programs spanning science, engineering, law, economics, business, information science, policy science, and arts. Ritsumeikan is part of the Ritsumeikan Trust, which also operates APU — the two institutions share scholarship structures and administrative resources.

Ritsumeikan's Kinugasa campus in Kyoto occupies a hillside location adjacent to the Kinukake-no-michi heritage trail — one of Japan's most scenic university settings. The university has English-medium undergraduate and graduate programs, particularly in science and engineering, economics, and policy studies. Kyoto's status as Japan's cultural capital, combined with its proximity to Osaka and Kobe, makes it an appealing base for international students seeking both cultural immersion and professional opportunities in the Kansai economy.
