Waseda University

Waseda University is one of Japan's top private universities and has historically been the most internationalised Japanese university — it runs a large catalog of English-taught programs across undergraduate and graduate levels, and has one of the largest international student populations in Japan. Waseda's School of International Liberal Studies, Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering, and Graduate School of Information, Production and Systems are particularly popular with international applicants.

Tuition at Waseda is meaningfully higher than at national universities (roughly JPY 1.0-1.5 million per year, or USD 7,000-10,000), but the university offers generous scholarships for international students including the Waseda Honors Scholarship, Ono Memorial Scholarship, and several donor-funded programs. The campus is in central Tokyo, and the alumni network in tech, finance, and media is one of the strongest in Japan.
