Technological University of the Shannon (TUS)

Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) was established in 2021 through the merger of Limerick Institute of Technology and Athlone Institute of Technology, creating a significant new technological university serving Ireland's midwest and midlands regions. TUS operates campuses in Limerick city (Moylish and Clonmel), Athlone, and Thurles — offering programs in engineering, computing, business, applied sciences, arts, design, and sport and recreation management.

TUS's Limerick campus benefits from the same regional economic infrastructure as the University of Limerick — access to major employers in the midwest including Dell EMC, Regeneron, Abbott, Analog Devices, and General Electric. As a new TU, TUS charges among the lowest non-EU tuition rates in Ireland and is growing its international student base actively. The Irish government's TU transformation agenda gives TUS access to increased capital funding and research infrastructure, positioning it as a genuine long-term alternative to Dublin-based institutions for technology and engineering graduates.
