About National University of Ireland, Maynooth

National University of Ireland, Maynooth (Maynooth University) was founded in 1795 as St Patrick's College and became a constituent university of the National University of Ireland. Today, ranked QS #651-700 globally (2025), Maynooth is known for a distinctive combination of humanities, social sciences, and technology — particularly computer science, mathematics, philosophy, and Celtic studies. Located in the historic town of Maynooth, 25km west of Dublin, the university benefits from both its own rich heritage campus and close proximity to Dublin's tech economy.

Maynooth's computing and quantitative finance programs have a strong reputation in Ireland's fintech and software industries, with the Dublin-Kildare tech corridor (Intel, HP, and dozens of MNCs operating in nearby Leixlip and Sandyford) providing a direct graduate employment route. The university is notably more affordable than TCD or UCD for similar program profiles. The Research Institutes include the Hamilton Institute (applied mathematics and networks) and the National Centre for Geocomputation.
