École Normale Supérieure Paris (ENS)

École Normale Supérieure Paris (ENS) is France's most elite academic institution and one of the world's foremost research universities, ranked QS #43 globally (2025). Founded in 1794, ENS has produced more Fields Medalists (the highest honor in mathematics) than any institution outside the US, along with 13 Nobel laureates — an extraordinary achievement for a school with fewer than 2,500 students. ENS is a member of PSL University, giving students access to the broader PSL academic network including Paris Dauphine (economics/finance) and MINES ParisTech. ENS admits international students to its master's and doctoral programs. While admission to the undergraduate 'normalien' program is restricted to students selected through French competitive examinations, ENS's master's programs (in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, and philosophy) are open to international applicants. Tuition follows the French public university rate of €2,770–3,770/year for non-EU students — an extraordinary value for QS #43 access. The ENS campus is in the 5th arrondissement (Latin Quarter) of Paris — the historic center of French intellectual life.
